Innovative Strategies for Mitigating Marine Toxins in Aquaculture | Novel Depuration Procedures and Molecular insights into Xenobiotic Sensing in Bivalves

Why InnovBivalves?
Harmful marine toxins in bivalves pose risks to seafood safety and the aquaculture industry. InnovBivalves aims to address this growing challenge.

Our Approach
By combining molecular biology and natural compounds, InnovBivalves intends to enhance bivalves' natural detoxification mechanisms.

Impact
InnovBivalves foresees to develop sustainable and cost-effective solutions that could turn contaminated bivalves into safe, high-quality seafood.
About InnovBivalves
Harmful algal blooms (HABs) and marine toxins are an increasing threat to seafood safety and bivalve aquaculture, causing health risks and significant economic losses. Traditional methods to clean bivalves are often slow and insufficient to remove these toxins.
InnovBivalves aims to develop a novel depuration protocol using the natural detoxification mechanisms of bivalves. By activating specific molecular receptors with safe natural compounds, our approach will try to accelerate toxin elimination in an efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective way. Combining molecular biology and innovative delivery methods, the project aims to turn contaminated bivalves into safe, high-quality seafood while supporting a resilient aquaculture industry.
